Pictures allegedly showing off the ASUS ROG Ally 2, plus technical specifications, have made their way to the internet. Supposedly, the company will be launching two versions of the gaming handhelds.

The (partial) hardware specs reveal that the ROG Ally 2 will be equipped with AMD’s latest Ryzen Z2 SoCs. More precisely, one will be rocking a Z2 Extreme, and one with a Z2.

The ROG Ally 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme will also supposedly come in one colour option: black. Specs-wise, the Z2 Extreme comes with eight CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, and has an operating TDP between 15W and 35W. Additionally, it comes with 32GB LPDDR5-8533 RAM and a Wi-Fi 6E module, which is perfectly fine.

The other version of the Ally 2, according to the leakster who posted it on X, comes with the Ryzen Z2. However, its specifications are interesting primarily because it lists down the chipset as having a 4-core CPU, rather than an 8-core CPU that the processor has. While it is possible that it is a Z2 Go, its alleged operating TDP of 6W and 20W raises questions about whether the chipset is another yet unannounced variant.

As for the exterior, we can clearly see that the Ally 2 has been given a makeover that borders on aggressive. Compared to the current iteration of the Ally and Ally X, the upcoming gaming handheld will have grips that are similar to those of a game controller. For that matter, the number of ports and button layout on display are similar to the Ally X. That includes two USB-C ports, one of which should support fast-charging. Oh, and the specs indicate that the Ally 2 will be recycling the same 7-inch FHD 120Hz.

This lines up with a teaser video posted by Asus on 1 April this year, which shows the outline of the Ally, and what we now know to be the Ally 2. And if you’re wondering why Asus released that video on that date: the original Ally was announced on April Fool’s Day 2023. It was all part of the brand’s plan: initially, no one took the announcement seriously, and a month later, it launched in Malaysia.
