The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has issued a warning over a fraudulent message currently circulating on WhatsApp, claiming to offer RM200 under the Bantuan Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) 2025 scheme. The ministry clarified that the message and its accompanying link are fake.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the MOF urged the public to remain cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious links. “Be careful and do not easily fall for such fake messages on social media,” the ministry stated, advising users to verify information only through MOF’s official communication channels.
This follows a similar scam that surfaced last month on the same messaging platform, which falsely referenced the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) programme. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil previously cautioned that such messages, often containing dubious links, may be tied to online fraud schemes, including fake investment offers and phishing attempts aimed at hijacking WhatsApp accounts.
Both SARA and STR are legitimate government aid programmes in Malaysia, though they serve different purposes. The latter is a broad-based cash aid initiative covering a range of eligible individuals, whereas the former functions as a supplementary scheme, offering additional support to STR recipients identified as poor or extremely poor under the eKasih database.
