YouTube is testing a new Premium subscription plan that allows users to share their YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium membership with another person in their household. Currently, this option is available to some users in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. To be eligible for this subscription tier, both users must be at least 13 years old, have a Google account, and be part of the same Google family group.
According to YouTube spokesperson Alex McQuiston, the company is experimenting with new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to its YouTube Premium subscribers. The new two-person plan is likely targeted towards couples, roommates and smaller households, as the existing Individual and Family plans may not be suitable for them.

In India, the price of the two-person YouTube Premium plan is INR219 (~RM11) per month, with the Individual and Family plans priced at INR140 (~RM7) per month and INR299 (~RM15) per month respectively. This places the two-person plan right in the middle, making it a more reasonable purchase. It is worth noting that the price for Premium subscriptions varies depending on the country, with India having among the cheapest pricing.
Should the plan be made available in other regions, it will likely be priced according to the local rates. In Malaysia, the Individual plan is priced at RM20.90 per month, while the Family plan costs RM41.90 per month, meaning the two-person plan could range from RM30 to RM36 per month if ever introduced locally.
That said, it is uncertain whether this subscription tier will be expanded to other countries, but it is clear that its introduction is a way for YouTube to entice more users into signing up for a Premium membership, so we may be seeing the new shared plan at some point. The company has recently redoubled its efforts to combat the use of ad-blockers, signaling to users that the only way to experience an ad-free YouTube is through a subscription.
