Nearly four years after leaving the smartphone business, LG has announced that it is shutting down update servers for its existing smartphones. Users who are still in possession of an LG smartphone are advised to update their devices before 30 June 2025, after which, support services will be terminated.
Affected services include LG Electronics Mobile Phone Software Upgrade (FOTA), Update Center, and LG Bridge services. LG Bridge is a PC app that allows users to manage their phone’s software updates and backups using a computer, which means that users will have no way to update their devices once the deadline has passed.

LG also noted that the personal information collected for these services will be deleted once the services end. However, it also mentioned that store some information may be stored based on related laws and regulations, as well as internal company policies. In this case, the data will be retained for a predetermined period outlined in its regulations.
The electronics company officially exited the smartphone business back in 2021 due to its inability to keep up with the fierce competition. Prior to the shutdown, LG attempted to sell its mobile division to Vietnam’s Vingroup, but was unsuccessful. While the company promised that customers would be able to receive support for LG smartphones for a certain period, enough time has passed since the mobile division’s closure, and it is quite likely that many users have already changed their devices.
