While the national carmaker, Proton, has entered the electric vehicle market, Perodua is yet to launch its EV vehicle. It is a known fact that many Malaysians are eager for the launch of eMO (Perodua’s first electric vehicle).

Well, it seems like the wait is not much longer as a recent Facebook posting in the paultan.org Automotive/Car discussion group revealed that the EMO-II concept was going through testing. The last time the model was seen as a concept was five months ago at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS).

According to Paultan.org, the number plate B3598A belongs to the national carmaker, confirming that it was indeed the EMO-II that was going through testing. However, as usual, the company has evidently decided to cover the test prototype with a lot of camouflage.

The camouflage included some hard disguise around the front end and the rear windscreen to mask the eMO’s real shape, since the car is still months away from its planned introduction at the end of the year. Nevertheless, it is very obvious that the eMO will maintain the display car’s look.

Talking about the design, this is what we know about the model. As mentioned above, the EMO-II concept was first unveiled at KLIMS 2024. From the unveiling, it was known that the model will be built on Perodua’s original small-scale prototype with an updated design featuring a dramatic X-shaped front bumper, a full-width light bar, an illuminated Perodua logo, and a deep chin spoiler.

The rear has a scalloped tailgate, a big roof spoiler, and chequered songket-inspired details on the taillights. It also has side skirts, a glass roof, and the side profile is dynamic due to its wraparound windscreen, thick C-pillars, and gloss black fender flares.

The inside of the cabin has a two-spoke steering wheel, a wraparound cockpit with digital displays, and creative door card storage that includes detachable messenger bags and foldable stools. Although there are few technical specifications available, Perodua says the EV can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6–7 seconds and has a 400–410 km range thanks to a lithium iron phosphate battery that comes from CATL.

With a target price of less than RM90,000, it will launch a new nameplate in the B-segment with the goal of being Malaysia’s most economical EV.
