There is a rumour going around that NVIDIA’s Super variant of the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 will both be getting a bump up in the amount of graphics memory. Specifically, the RTX 5080 Super could ship out with 24GB GDDR7, and the RTX 5070 Super with 18GB.
The rumour comes from a post on the Chinese forum Chiphell, where the two yet-to-be-released SKUs were mentioned. Expectations of the former were there but that NVIDIA would release a beefed-up version of the RTX 5070 is a bit of a surprise. Supposedly, the card will be fitted with six 3GB GDDR7 modules, instead of the usual 2GB modules on the other RTX 50 Series cards.
Memory module capacity aside, this isn’t the first time NVIDIA has bumped the graphics memory of a card mid-generation. The RTX 4070 Ti Super received 4GB GDDR6X more than its non-Super counterpart that launched with 12GB.
More importantly, nothing has been set in stone and this is just a rumour, after all. And even if this turns out to be true, the earliest we think these cards will launch would be next year or the year after, when it is closer to Blackwell’s life cycle.
