Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed that the company is working to add Gemini to Android Auto and Wear OS smartwatches. Additionally, Google Assistant on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones will be upgraded to include the AI assistant.
This announcement was made during a Q1 earnings call for Google’s parent company Alphabet, where Pichai emphasised the significance of AI development in powering the organisation’s growth. A considerable amount of resources have been invested into the development of AI, especially the Gemini models, so it’s only natural for the company to its in-house AI in all of its offerings. As it stands, the model has replaced Google Assistant as the default assistant on many Android smartphones.
Google has yet to provide further details on the Gemini expansion, including the timeline for the AI model’s arrival on these devices. However, Pichai has promised that the upgrades will be coming “later this year”, so we can probably expect to learn more in the coming months.
In addition to improving on its existing AI models like Gemini and Veo, the company is also looking into developing new models in areas with “enormous opportunity”. Notable examples of this include the Gemini Robotics models, as well as the AI Co-Scientist, which is a multi-agent AI research system.
