U Mobile has appointed Celcom Timur Sabah (CT Sabah) as its partner for deploying 5G leased circuits in Sabah and WP Labuan. This agreement will allow the company to use the fibre infrastructure to support and accelerate the telco’s rollout of the upcoming second 5G network in the region.
CT Sabah will upgrade its existing 4G leased circuit sites to 5G in addition to developing more new leased circuit sites to meet U Mobile’s requirements as part of the agreement. This partnership will allow the telco to make use of the extensive fibre network spanning over 10,000 kilometres across Sabah and WP Labuan to secure strong, stable and high-capacity connectivity for users in the area.
According to U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen, the collaboration with CT Sabah further strengthens the company’s ability to meet rollout goals. He also added that the telco is ready to play an even greater role in narrowing the digital divide, aligning to national ambitions of making Malaysia a high-income digital nation.
Meanwhile, CT Sabah CEO Zurinah Datuk Hanafiah stated that the company is committed to advancing digital connectivity in Sabah and WP Labuan, and we view the 5G rollout as a critical step toward unlocking new opportunities for the region. She also noted that the partnership with U Mobile is a key enabler in this effort, and that CT Sabah is proud to support the 5G expansion by providing robust and reliable fibre infrastructure.
