Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced that it is introducing an “extra member add-on” to Max, which will cost US subscribers an additional US$7.99 (~RM35) per month to share their subscription plans with people outside of their households. Essentially, the streaming service is charging subscribers for sharing accounts with friends and family.
This new feature is available for all subscription tiers, and allows a primary account holder to invite another person to create a separate account under the same subscription. This extra member can access this account with their own login details separate from the primary account, and will be able to stream from one profile using one device at a time. They will also have access to the benefits included in the subscriber’s base plan. A primary account holder can only add only one extra member. Along with the extra member add-on, Max is introducing a profile transfer feature that allows users to transfer their watch histories, recommendations, and other settings associated with their profiles to new accounts.

Currently, the add-on is only applicable to subscribers in the US, but it could be an indication of things to come for global subscribers. That said, there is no mention of an extra member add-on on Max’s Malaysia website as of yet.
Max launched in Malaysia last November, with two subscription plans. The Standard plan is priced at RM34.90/month, with a slightly cheaper yearly payment option of RM279.90/year. This subscription tier offers simultaneous streaming on two devices including TVs, 1080p resolution, as well as 30 downloads for watching offline. The pricier Ultimate plan goes for RM52.90/month, or RM424.90/year, and allows users to stream on up to four devices at once, 4K UHD resolution and Dolby Atmos, as well as 100 downloads.
