British automotive brand MG has recently previewed an upcoming EV that it is launching sometime next month. It’s the MG S5, a C-segment SUV to compete with the likes of the Proton eMas 7 and the BYD Atto 3. This follows the opening of the registration of interest (ROI) for the car sometime earlier this month, according to AutoBuzz.
The ROI page reveals a couple of things to expect from the MG S5. This includes 18-inch allow wheels, 144l of boot space, a 12.8-inch central control screen with physical buttons and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster screen.
Beyond these, the report shares that the preview saw the company sharing other items on the spec sheet, alongside the fact that there will be two variants. Both will be rear-wheel drive (RWD), and will share the 170 bhp (125 kW) and 250 Nm performance figures, as well as a century speed time of 6.1 seconds. Differentiating the two is their battery capacity, with one rated at 49 kWh and a WLTP range of 340km, while the other is rated at 62 kWh and 430km.
Their charging times also differ based on their battery capacities. The MG S5 model with the smaller battery supports DC charging of up to 120 kW, while the larger one charges at the rate of up to 150 kW, which is the one that’s advertised on the ROI site.
Other features of the MG S5 include a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver seat, a six-speaker sound system, rear reading lamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. They will also have a suite of advances driver assistance systems (ADAS) with 16 features, all relying on the 8MP camera and two mmWave radars.
The MG S5 will have five colour variants, according to the report, which are Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red and Elegant Latte. On the inside, you get a dark interior leather and fabric combo seats. As for their prices, the company has yet to finalise the amount it is charging for the EV, but notes that it will start from an estimated RM115,000.
