Apple is set to introduce a significant software update in early April 2025, bringing lossless audio and ultra-low latency capabilities to its AirPods Max with USB-C headset. This update, arriving alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4, aims to enhance music listening, professional audio production, gaming, and livestreaming experiences.
With the forthcoming update, the AirPods Max headset will support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected via the included USB-C cable. This allows users to experience music in its purest form on platforms such as Apple Music, enhancing immersion with uncompressed sound and Personalised Spatial Audio.

For musicians and producers, Apple says the introduction of lossless audio and ultra-low latency provides a new level of precision. AirPods Max will be the only headphones capable of both creating and mixing in Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking when used with Logic Pro and other music production apps. Meanwhile, gamers and livestreamers will benefit from the ultra-low latency audio update as well.
Alongside the upcoming improvements, Apple has also introduced a new 3.5mm to USB-C adapter, providing another option for high-quality, low-latency wired listening. This adapter allows the AirPods Max headset to connect to devices without USB-C ports, such as in-flight entertainment systems. Additionally, it can function in reverse, enabling iPhones or iPads to connect to car audio systems via an audio-in port.
The new 3.5mm to USB-C adapter is available now for RM219 from Apple Malaysia’s website, its physical store in TRX, as well as authorised resellers nationwide. To refresh, the AirPods Max is priced at RM2,499, and is available in five colours: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange.
