Casio Malaysia previewed the G-SHOCK GA-V01 series earlier this week, confirming its arrival in the local market soon. This timepiece, which launched in China last month, introduces a fresh design unique to this range while maintaining the renowned durability of the G-SHOCK brand.
The G-SHOCK GA-V01 features an integrated band and bezel structure, with an unconventional aesthetic where the 3D hour markers appear to be placed outside the display glass, seemingly part of the bezel rather than the module itself. The watch’s bold case shape is accentuated by raised hour markers clamped onto a curved spherical glass display, which not only enhances its striking visual appeal but also contributes to its impact resistance. With a width of 58.2 millimeters and a thickness of 19.6 millimeters, the GA-V01 is notably large and has a total weight of 74 grams.
A distinctive feature of this series is the indicator and LCD display section, which bears a resemblance to cartoon-like eyes, a design element referred to as “CoolEyes” by G-SHOCK China. According to Casio China, the new GA-V01 embodies an “Open V World” theme, a futuristic concept that promotes individuality without limitations.
Key specifications of the GA-V01 include shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, and a resin strap compatible with wrist sizes from 145 to 215 millimeters. The watch is powered by a CR2025 battery, which provides an estimated battery life of ten years. It features a dual LED light with adjustable durations, world time covering 48 cities, five daily alarms, an hourly time signal, a 1/100-second stopwatch with multiple time-tracking functions, and a 24-hour countdown timer. Additional functionalities include a 12/24-hour format, button tone control, hand shift, and lume.
The series will be available in four colour variants: black (GA-V01-1A), purple (GA-V01-2A), lime green (GA-V01-9A), and silver (GA-V01A-8A). Casio has not yet announced the official pricing or release date for Malaysia. However, for reference, the G-SHOCK GA-V01 launched in China at a retail price of CNY990 (~RM604).
