Known tipster Ice Universe has reported via Weibo that Samsung is planning to launch its first bone-conduction headphones. Codenamed “Able”, the device may have its unveiling alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 at the expected Unpacked event in July.

The rumoured headphones will differ from the pre-existing Samsung Galaxy Buds series, all of which are in-ear earphones. The bone-conduction device will be open-ear by design, resting outside the ear canals rather than inside them. Not only does this particular design offer better spatial awareness and less discomfort from prolonged usage, it is also accessible to users with hearing aids.

Bone-conduction headphones aren’t a new technology, though it does remain somewhat niche. Regardless, this purported upcoming product by Samsung would have to feature some level of uniqueness to vie against other known brands in the market such as Shokz.

The exact name, pricing and features of the headphones remain unknown as of now. While Ice Universe is generally reliable and accurate in their leaks, the lack of confirmation from Samsung itself should be more than enough reason to take these rumours with a grain of salt, like with any other rumour.
