Touch ‘n Go Digital has introduced a new travel eSIM service through its TnG eWallet app, offering users seamless connectivity in 149 countries, including Japan, South Korea, China and Singapore. The service, revealed to be a collaboration Airalo, allows users to purchase an eSIM and subscribe to a data plan directly within the app, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card swap when travelling.
For those unfamiliar, an eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card that is embedded within compatible mobile devices. Unlike traditional SIM cards, eSIMs do not require physical insertion or removal, enabling users to activate mobile services directly from their smartphones. This makes eSIMs particularly useful for travellers who frequently switch networks or require dual-line functionality.
With Dual SIM technology, users can operate a physical SIM and an eSIM concurrently. This allows travellers to retain their home number for calls and texts while using the eSIM for data or local mobile services abroad. This can be managed via phone settings, providing flexibility to enable or disable it as needed. Do note that not all Android or iOS devices support eSIM capability.
The TnG eWallet travel eSIM service is designed to offer a convenient and cost-effective roaming solution, reducing the risk of unexpected charges. Users can access the service by selecting “More” on the app’s home screen, navigating to the “GOtravel” section, and choosing “Travel eSIM.” From there, they can select their destination and preferred data plan.
Additionally, multi-country roaming plans are available for those visiting multiple destinations within a single trip. These plans have validity periods ranging from seven days to a month, catering to different travel needs. Users can also top up their data through the eWallet app, either by purchasing a top-up package or installing an additional eSIM plan.

For comparison, CelcomDigi offers a 14-day unlimited pass with 3GB of high-speed data daily for RM98, while Maxis provides a 15-day unlimited pass with 1GB of high-speed data daily for RM99. CelcomDigi’s 30-day pass is priced at RM118 per month, whereas Maxis recently increased its monthly rate to RM149. Meanwhile, U Mobile provides a 14-day Travel Pass for RM35, offering unlimited data in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, with 50GB of high-speed data at 6Mbps before speeds are reduced to 512kbps. It also has a 24-hour roaming pass that costs RM38, providing unlimited data with 1GB of high-speed data, available in 54 destinations.
