In addition to a new MacBook Air, Apple has also announced an update to its Mac Studio with brand new chips. With lower starting prices and more RAM than its predecessors, the new mini desktop computer can be equipped with either the Apple Silicon M4 Max or the M3 Ultra.

While the Mac Studio retains its design, its Thunderbolt 4 ports have all been upgraded to Thunderbolt 5. Overall, the back of both models gets four Thunderbolt 5 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 10Gb Ethernet port, and a headphone jack. Up front, the M4 Max model gets two USB-C ports with an SD card slot while the M3 Ultra variant upgrades the USB-C ports to additional Thunderbolt 5 slots. The former supports up to five displays while the latter can output to a total of eight displays.

The new base model starts from RM8,999, equipped with an M4 Max with a 14-core CPU, a 32-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine paired with 36GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. For an additional RM1,275, you can upgrade to an M4 Max with a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, with no option to increase the memory capacity unless you opt for the higher-tier chip.

It costs an additional RM6,375 to upgrade to a 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU variant. A fully decked out Mac Studio with 512GB of RAM and 16TB of storage will set you back a whopping RM60,924.
