It would appear that many hardware brands are showing off a lot of green tech for this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). While Infinix has the solar-powered phone and case, Lenovo has something similar of its own as well, in the form of the Yoga Solar PC Concept.
The Lenovo Yoga Solar PC Concept is essentially a modified version of an existing Yoga laptop series, but with solar panel tacked on its lid, enabling it to harness light to garner electricity. The panel is made up of 84 solar cells and uses Back Contact Cell technology, allowing the mounting brackets and gridlines to be placed at the back of the cells. Due to this, the panels capture more light, offering up to 24 percent of solar energy conversion.
Lenovo claims the laptop is able to generate enough energy to play an hour’s worth of videos after just 20 minutes in the sun. Notably, the PC also supports Dynamic Solar Tracking, which automatically adjusts the cells’ settings to maximise the amount of gathered energy. Indoors, the company says that the laptop is able to harvest power from as little as 0.3W of light.
On the specs side, the laptop weighs just a little over one kilo, and is less than 0.6 inches thick. It has a 14-inch OLED display, and is powered by Intel Lunar Lake. It comes equipped with up to 32GB of RAM, and packs a 50.2 WHr battery. Additionally, it has a 2MP IR web camera to use with Windows Hello.
Lenovo stated that the Solar Yoga PC Concept is to remain a concept device, and there are no confirmed plans to launch it as an official product. As welcome of an idea as it is, it will have to remain an idea until Lenovo decides otherwise.
