[UPDATE: 9 February 2025 – 2:20pm] Sony, via its Ask PlayStation account on X, has announced that all PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive  additional 5 days of service as compensation for the outage. The company has yet to reveal the cause of the issue, however.

Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced its first major outage of the year, lasting nearly 24 hours. The company, via its Japanese account, first announced the issue at 8:12am local time yesterday, with disruptions continuing until this morning on 9 February 2025.

Restoration of the service was later made known by the same account at 7:49am today, followed by a confirmation from its US counterpart at 7:58am. As of writing, all services are listed as operational on the PSN Service Status page, and reports on Downdetector have significantly declined.

PSN has been restored. You should be able to access online features without any problems now. For more details: https://t.co/NJX2xGusZM
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Sony has not disclosed the cause of the outage, issuing only an apology in its official statement. This lack of explanation has raised concerns among users about the security of their accounts and data, with some speculating that a cyberattack may have been responsible. Others have taken to social media to demand compensation.

The downtime was particularly disruptive for gamers, as it fell on the first day of the weekend. Additionally, the second Monster Hunter Wilds beta was scheduled to run from 7 to 10 February 2025. Due to the outage, PlayStation 5 players were unable to participate on Saturday, effectively losing a full day of the four-day event. Capcom’s official Monster Hunter account on X acknowledged the service restoration but did not mention any form of compensation for the lost time.
