Honda Malaysia has announced what it calls a “proactive product update” for a number of vehicles, which basically means that the affected vehicles may be in need of inspection, rather than a full-on recall. This affects about 36,000 vehicles within the Civic, Civic Type R and CR-V models, or more specifically the Civic 2022-2024, Civic Type R 2023-2024, and CR-V 2024.

According to the company, the Electric Power Steering (EPS) gearbox worm of the affected vehicles “may swell and reduce grease film thickness, causing abnormal noise or sticky steering”. If you’re an owner of an affected vehicle, Honda Malaysia says that you will be sent a notification letter with details of the product update.

And if you’ve gotten one such notification letter, the company says that you should bring your vehicle to an authorised dealer to make and appointment to have your vehicles inspected, and to have it repaired if required. Honda Malaysia says that it “will bear the cost of inspection repair or replacement of the affected parts”. That being the case, “replacement stock will be made available in stages starting from December 2024”.

Honda Malaysia also says that owners can get more info, as well as check their vehicle status on this product update by contacting the company. This can be done by calling its toll-free number at 1-800-88-2020 or by visiting its web page dedicated to updates and recalls, linked here.
