Casio has announced the arrival of its new G-SQUAD GBD-300 watch for the Malaysian market. While not a full-fledged smartwatch, it offers the ability to display notifications from your smartphone, as well as track distance, steps and calories during workouts. Of course, it also retains the G-Shock series’ signature durability and weather resistance.

The GBD-300 is designed with a slimmer and more compact body compared to traditional G-Shock models. Its textured band helps prevent sweat buildup, ensuring a non-slip fit during workouts. The watch is water-resistant up to 20 bar and features dual bezels to protect the internal components from shocks.

Its display features a high-contrast monochrome LCD panel that’s protected by a raised bezel, and can be illuminated automatically with the Super Illuminator LED by simply tilting the wrist. The watch also includes four alarms, a countdown timer, a stopwatch, and the ability to display 38 world times. There’s also a built-in vibration function for alerts, notifications, and so on.

Health tracking capabilities on the GBD-300 include monitoring distance, speed, pace, and calories burned, with a log view to track daily steps or monthly running distances. According to Casio, users can store data for up to 100 runs. Unlike common smartwatches, however, this G-Shock model does not feature the ability to record heart rate, blood oxygen, and other stats that require specific wrist-based sensors.

In terms of connectivity, the G-SQUAD GBD-300 relies on Bluetooth low energy in order to pair with your smartphone. When connected, users can utilise Casio’s G-Shock Move app to create personalised training plans, log workout data, and adjust GPS distance as well as time accuracy.

The watch uses a CR2032 battery to power itself, which the company claims is capable of lasting up to two years. There’s no solar or USB-based charging on the GBD-300, which means that you’ll need to replace the battery when the time comes. Those accustomed to smartwatches may consider this approach to be a downside.

The new G-SQUAD GBD-300 is priced at RM845 and now available on Casio Malaysia’s website, official stores, as well as G-Factory and authorised dealers nationwide. It is available in three colourways: black, white, and yellow.
