Samsung Malaysia has announced the sixth edition of “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) 2024”, a competition for youths to develop problem-solving skills and address community challenges using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The theme this time around is “Start with Can”, which encourages participants to identify local issues and create innovative solutions, competing for a share of RM 80,000 in technology and classroom supplies.

In collaboration with Universiti Malaya, this initiative seeks to instill early interest and skills in STEM, equipping the next generation with the necessary abilities to thrive in the future workforce. This effort aligns with Malaysia’s vision of building a sustainable STEM talent pool to become a high-tech nation by 2030.

This competition is open for registration to all public, private or international school students aged 13 to 15 years old from now until 16 September 2024. All selected participants must identify pressing local issues and create solutions engaging with STEM to bring positive change to the public. The description must be written in writing with a maximum of 800 words.

Cash prizes offered for each winner are quite generous with a total value of RM80,000. The first place winner stands a chance to win a cash prize of RM28,000 if they win the competition. While the runner-up also brought RM24,000. The contestant who wins third place will take home RM19,000. Then fourth and fifth place won money worth RM6,000 and RM3,000 respectively.

Entries will be evaluated by Samsung Malaysia and Universiti Malaya based on issue relevance, creativity, feasibility, STEM application, and presentation. The top 10 teams will advance to the next round to enhance and present their ideas.
