Kobo has recently unveiled three new eReaders for the local market. Two of which, the Libra Colour and Clara Colour, are the first from the brand to offer colour e-ink displays, while the Clara BW (Black and White) is an update of the Clara 2e from last year.
To start things off, we have the Kobo Libra Colour. Despite sporting a similar-looking design to the Libra 2, it actually features a newer 7-inch Kaleido 3 colour e-ink display with FastGLR and dark mode. It offers a resolution of 1264 x 1680 pixels, with a 300 PPI pixel density when viewing regular black and white content and 150 PPI pixel density when viewing colour content. In addition, the eReader also supports optional stylus input via the Kobo Stylus 2 that’s sold separately.
Apart from that, Kobo revealed that the device is equipped with a faster dual core 2GHz processor, 32GB of storage, IPX8 water resistance, and has WiFi 5 and Bluetooth connectivity. Also onboard is a 2050mAh battery that offers up to 40 days of usage, while charging is done through USB-C. Additionally, the Libra Colour supports EPUB, PDF, CBR ebook formats and more.
Next up is the Clara Colour, which comes with a 6-inch display with 1448 x 1072 pixel resolution. According to Kobo, it offers 300 PPI pixel density for black and white content, and 150 PPI pixel density for colour content.
This model also comes with a dual 2.0GHz processor, 16GB of storage, IPX8 water resistance, as well as WiFi 5 and Bluetooth support. Meanwhile, the eReader’s 1500mAh battery is said to offer up to 42 days of usage.
Last but not least is the Kobo Clara BW, which is equipped with a newer 6-inch Carta 1300 e-ink panel that’s touted to offer better contrast and a faster refresh rate. It has a resolution of 1448 x 1072 pixels, and 300 PPI pixel density. Like the Clara 2e, the device also comes with a 1GHz processor, 16GB of storage, IPX8 water resistance, and a week-long battery life.
The new Libra Colour is set to retail at RM1,079, the Clara Colour at RM779, and the Clara BW at RM679. Optional accessories include the Kobo Stylus 2 priced at RM319, Notebook SleepCover for RM185, Basic SleepCover for RM155 and the Kobo Clear Case for RM135. Pre-orders for all three are available now via Kobo’s official website, while nationwide availability (including via authorised local retailers) is slated from 30 April onwards.
