[Update: 1pm, 18 Nov 2023] The company has updated its announcement, saying that the Destination Charger installed at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet is free to use for Tesla owners until further notice.

Tesla today has officially announced the opening of its fourth Supercharging Station in Malaysia, which is located at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet in Alor Gajah, Melaka. This new station provides four new Superchargers and one Destination Charger, which now brings the total number active Tesla chargers in the country to 20.

As with its other stations in Pavilion KL, Sunway Big Box Retail Park and Sunway Pyramid, the four chargers at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet offer a peak efficiency of 250kW, which Tesla claims is able to provide up to 282km of range to a Model 3 in just 15 minutes. Similarly, these are also available 24/7 and charging will cost you RM1.25/kWh, while a RM4 per minute penalty will be imposed if you fail to remove your EV once its battery is fully topped up.

The new Supercharging Station features integrated support for Tesla vehicles and its mobile app, enabling owners to effortlessly navigate, precondition vehicle batteries and wirelessly access chargers for a fast and hassle-free experience. This includes real-time monitoring of Supercharger availability, charging status, payment, technical support and more.

For the uninitiated, the Destination Charger mentioned earlier offers a slower charging rate compared to Superchargers, where a full charge will take around 12 hours to complete. This is intentional, as it allows you to park and charge your Tesla vehicle for several hours or even overnight if the destination allows it. On that note, Destination Chargers are fully operated by premise owners (in this case, Freeport A’Famosa Outlet) and are free to use, though you still need to pay the location for utilising the associated parking spot.
