The Instax Pal miniature camera that was originally introduced in the US and other markets in September has finally arrived in Malaysia. Due to the lack of a built-in printer, the new product is instead designed to work together with the Fujifilm sub-brand’s portable printers such as the Mini Link, Square Link, and Link Wide through wireless connectivity.

To recap, the new Instax Pal inherits the brand’s playful, rounded design and is tiny enough to be stored easily in pockets, purses, bags and so on. Found on top of the camera is a shutter button, whereas a USB-C port is located on its back. There’s also a speaker and flash unit just above its fixed lens in front, while a hidden microSD card slot on the left-hand side. Unfortunately, the Instax Pal does not come with an LCD screen or selfie mirror, but included together with it is a multi-use ring accessory that can function as a finger strap, stand, or even a makeshift viewfinder by attaching it on top.

The camera’s sensor is merely described as a 1/5-inch CMOS that’s capable of shooting 2560 x 1920 resolution photos, but lacks the ability to record videos. It also features an ISO range of 100 to 1600, f2.2 aperture with 35mm equivalent focal length, auto white balance and exposure functions, as well as 1/4 second to 1/8000 second shutter speed. Onboard is an internal memory capacity that can store up to 50 shots, which can be expanded further through a microSD card.

Fujifilm did not say how long the Instax Pal is capable of lasting on a single charge, but notes that a full top-up will take up to three hours via USB-C. Keep in mind the onboard USB connectivity is only meant for charging, as data transfer is solely dependent on the built-in Bluetooth function. That being said, you can view the images shot via the camera on your smartphone through the Instax companion app, which in turn connects to the brand’s Link printers series for printing.

The new Instax Pal is available now via Fujifilm Malaysia’s official webstore as well as authorised distributors nationwide both online and physical. The Milky White, Lavender Blue, Pistachio Green and Powder Pink colour variants are priced at RM488, while the Gem Black option is offered at a slightly expensive price of RM588.
