The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro lineup was unveiled yesterday with several new camera features. While some will be exclusive to the 15 series, it seems that a few of the new features will also be making its way to the iPhone 14 Pro models via a software update.
Excitingly, Twitter user Dylan displayed how on iOS 17, the iPhone 14 Pro gets the new Portrait mode focus and depth control that lets you tap to change the subject in focus on a photo, even after it’s already been taken. Currently, you can only adjust the strength of the background blur or remove it entirely on existing photos, but with the update, you can make it so that the focus is on another subject.
Unfortunately, one thing that will be exclusive to the 15 series is the ability to automatically capture depth information when the phone detects a person or an animal in the photo. Meaning that users with older iPhones will still have to manually toggle Portrait mode in order to be able to use the enhanced editing feature.
Another good news for owners of last year’s iPhone is that, according to 9to5mac, the new HEIF Max tool will also be made available on the iPhone 14 Pro. This allows you to take full advantage of the 48MP sensor without having to use ProRAW, as it enables you to capture 48MP images in the HEIF format.
