Samsung Brings Back Its Pokemon Tie In For Galaxy Buds 2

Featuring Snorlax, Ditto and Jigglypuff cases for your TWS earbuds cases.

Last year, Samsung had quite the tie in with the Pokemon franchise, giving its Galaxy Z Flip3 and Buds 2 the red and white touch of a Poke Ball. Now, the company is at it again, with a few pocket monsters to represent the collaboration rather than just the globes they reside in when not in battle. Part of the special edition now are Snorlax, Ditto and Jigglypuff, but unfortunately, this tie in benefits only the earbuds.

Like last year’s Poke Ball case that sits over the original case of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, you have the head of Snorlax, the limbless body of Jigglypuff, and the whole of Ditto giving the original charging case an extra layer of protection. Also like before, they come with accompanying stickers, but rather than the wide range that was available last year, this time the stickers match the cases themselves. So while they are thematic, there’s not much variety in that sense.

Probably worth noting at this point is that, with the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro being an available alternative, these Pokemon collaboration cases also come in variants to support the upgraded TWS buds. While there are no obvious differences between the two, their cases vary ever so slightly in measurements. With that in mind, these special edition cases are probably not interchangeable between the base and Pro models.

As noted on the announcement, Samsung has priced these Pokemon special edition cases at KRW129,000 (~RM463) for the base Galaxy Buds 2 and KRW199,000 (~RM713) for the Pro model. Though unfortunately, just like the Poke Ball cases from last year, these will only be officially available in the company’s home market of South Korea, and will likely be sold out moments after availability. And as adorable as they may be, it’s not worth wading in the treacherous waters of the scalper market.
