Tablets, by today’s standards, are pretty simple electronic devices. When you think of them, the image that immediately comes to mind is a moderately sized slate that let’s you do pretty much everything a smartphone can do, only with a bigger screen. But LG has come up with what it calls the StanbyME Go, and yes, that name is not a typo with a missing letter. Though with the way it looks, tablet may not be the first word that comes to mind.

Rather than opting for the simple protective case or shell for its tablet, the LG StanbyME Go is a tablet that’s integrated into a briefcase. It even has a stand that props it out of said briefcase, making it look more like a tiny TV or monitor than a tablet. It’s definitely larger than your average tablet too, with a screen measuring 26 inches across. It’s a Full HD display with a 60Hz refresh rate, with support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, but it runs webOS, making it lean more on the TV side of things.

You can also rotate the screen of the LG StanbyME Go vertically once it is propped up, and should you choose to, there is also the option to leave it inside the briefcase and use it as is. The briefcase itself also measures in at 670 x 433 X 119 mm, and weighs 12.7kg, basically taking away everything that made the tablet a convenient and portable device. There’s space to also carry its remote and charging cable, the latter of which you’ll definitely need because the battery life is rated at three hours while in low-power mode.

For now, the LG StanbyME Go is exclusive to its home market of South Korea, and has an eye-watering price tag of KRW1,190,000, (~RM4,203). While it’s an interesting showpiece for tech events, and probably a conversation starter for those wealthy enough to own it, there seems to be plenty of more financially sound options to achieve the same result.
