vivo has announced that the Y36 will come to our shores in less than two weeks. The upcoming device is the brand’s latest entry-level offering, which was launched in Indonesia last week in two variants — one with 5G support and one with only 4G.

Assuming that we’re getting the same specs as the Indonesian release, the Y36 sports a 6.64-inch LCD display with a 1080p resolution, a peak brightness of 650 nits, and a refresh rate of 90Hz. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and for protection, it comes with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

Under the hood is where you’ll the main difference between the 4G and 5G variants, as they run on different chipsets. The 4G Y36 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 while the 5G version gets the MediaTek Dimensity 6020. This is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, although the Malaysian version could get a different configuration.

There’s a dual setup on the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor while the front cutout houses a 16MP selfie shooter. On the software side, the phone ships with Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13.

Powering the budget device is a standard 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W wired charging, which can fill it up to 30% in under 15 minutes. The connectivity features of the 4G variant includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. Additionally, it offers dual stereo speakers with 200% volume booster.

The Y36 4G retails for IDR3,399,000 (~RM1,040) while the brand has yet to announce the price of the 5G model. For now, we don’t know which version of the phone will be coming to Malaysia, so stay tuned for its local launch on 13 June to find out more.
