iPhone 15, 15 Plus To Feature 48MP Camera; May Face Production Delays

According to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu.

Most rumours surrounding this year’s upcoming batch of iPhones center around the iPhone 15 Pro models, due to their potential use of a capacitive volume rocker. Those rumours may have been put to rest for now, but we’re finally seeing the base and Plus model having a presence in the rumour mill. And the key takeaway is that these phones will be using the 48MP camera that was first seen on last year’s Pro models.

MacRumours reports that analyst Jeff Pu of Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities made the claim in a research note. Also noted was a new three-stacked sensor tech that will allow these cameras to capture more light for better resulting pictures. While the actual effect on image capturing ability remains to be seen, chances are this will give the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus the ability to take ProRAW photos, much like the Pro models.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the iPhone 15 on the research note though. The report states that in the same note, Pu also claims that the stacked sensor “is likely facing yield issues”, judging from “recent supply chain checks”. This may mean a slight delay in the production of those devices. For now, Apple is still expected to announce them in September, and if the delays don’t prove to be too severe, the fruit company will likely make them available within the month itself as it usually does.

While predictions by analysts should be taken with a punch of salt like any other leak, Jeff Pu does have a solid track record so far. He was among the first to have made the claim that the iPhone 15 Pro won’t be using a capacitive volume rocker, and instead will revert to the traditional two-button setup for volume control. Others to have made the same prediction around the same time were fellow Haitong International Securities analyst Shelly Chou, and Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities.
