A select number of LRT, MRT and Monorail stations in Kuala Lumpur will see extended operating hours this Saturday on 15 April 2023. In a statement released earlier today on Twitter, Rapid KL said this particular arrangement is intended to aid those who need to make last-minute preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

According to the public transport operator, a total of eight different stations across all four of its rail services will continue to operate until 1:30 am the next morning. These include the KLCC station on the Kelana Jaya (KJ) LRT line; the Masjid Jamek station which connects both the KJ and Ampang / SriPetaling lines; Bukit Bintang, Raja Chulan, Chow Kit and Medan Tuanku stations on the Monorail line, and the Bukit Bintang station on the MRT Kajang line.

“The operating hours of connecting stations will be extended to ferry passengers to their destinations, whereas other stations will end their operations as usual. However, commuters can still exit the respective stations to continue their journeys,” Rapid KL said in the statement. “City dwellers are urged to use public transport this weekend to reduce traffic congestion in the city centre.” It also urged passengers to use Touch ‘N Go cards or purchase return trip tokens in advance to facilitate their upcoming journeys on Saturday.

Additionally, the public transport operator noted the operating hours of the LRT 11 intermediate buses that connect users to the relevant stops following the closure of six LRT stations on the Ampang / Sri Petaling lines will be extended as well. Just in case you missed it, Rapid KL had ceased operations for the Bandaraya, Sultan Ismail, PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur stations last month due to a damaged track that severed their connection to the other stops on the line. The disconnect prevented the five trains that were still operating along the six stations from returning to the LRT depot in Ampang, which forced the operator to pull them out of service due to the lack of proper maintenance.

On a related note, Transport Minister Anthony Loke earlier today announced that the government is imposing a new key-performance-indicator (KPI) target of one million KM without disruptions for Rapid KL’s LRT and MRT services. Prasarana, the public transport operator’s parent company, has been told to achieve this target by the third quarter of 2026.
