The much-rumoured OPPO A98 is most probably coming to Malaysia soon after it gets officially launched by the brand. This is because the phone, which has yet to even be announced, has already been listed in the SIRIM database, which is a clue that the phone will likely be arriving here in the near future.

Listed with the model name CPH2529, the device received SIRIM certification just last week on 28 March. It will likely be the successor to last year’s A97, which never made its way onto our shores, with the last A9X OPPO smartphone released here being the A96.

Of course, since the brand has not made any announcement about the product yet, we don’t know what the official specs will be for the phone, but there have been several leaks that have given us a peek at what to expect. Last month, the OPPO A98 appeared on China’s NBTC and CQC certification databases with the same CPH2529 model name, as well as an earlier sighting in the TENAA database.

It is listed as being powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor, which has been rumoured to be either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 or Snapdragon 778G chipset, coupled with between 6GB to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage along with a microSD card slot. Allegedly, the phone will sport a 6.7-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

The images found in the TENAA database also show that the A98 will have curved edges along with a punch-hole cutout for a 16MP selfie camera. On the back, it is believed to be equipped with a 108MP primary lens as well as a 2MP depth sensor.

Powering the device will probably be a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W charging. As of now, there is no word on when OPPO plans on launching the A98, but with its SIRIM listing, it will presumably be in the near future.
