More than three months since Yes and NVIDIA officially announced their GeForce Now cloud gaming partnership, the service is now finally online in Malaysia. However, this does not mean the service has been launched to the mass public for our market.

For now, the GeForce Now service in Malaysia has to go through a public beta test first. Taking place until 10 April, this beta test is only open to Yes customers.

If you are one of them, you can create your GeForce Now account through the signup page on Yes 5G Gaming’s website. Do make sure that you have your MyYes app around since the OTP code for the account registration will be sent to the app.

Once the account is active, you also need to choose the plan (there is only the Beta option for now) and enter your debit or credit info before you start using the service. If everything is done correctly, you should be able to see GeForce NOW Premium as the type of membership inside the settings section of the GeForce Now client as well as the Premium label underneath your e-mail address on the top right corner of the client.

According to the service’s client for Windows, there are currently 1,547 games available for Malaysian users at the time this article is published. However, do note that you still need to obtain your own Steam, Ubisoft, and Epic Games titles to play on GeForce Now.

Then again, the cloud gaming platform is not exclusive to paid games since it currently also supports more than 80 free games. Ultimately, think of GeForce Now as a platform to play your games without the need to have a powerful gaming machine.

You do need to have a quality Internet connection though as GeForce Now Malaysia’s FAQ recommends at least a 15Mbps connection. That being said, faster Internet speed would allow users to game at higher resolution and faster FPS rate.

Even though the Yes 5G Gaming’s home page said that the gaming experience would be in 1080p at 60fps, this section of the FAQ listed the correlation between Internet speed, resolution, and FPS rate:

  • 15Mbps: 720p 60fps
  • 25Mbps: 1080p 60fps
  • 35Mbps: up to 3840×1800 120fps

Speaking about Internet connection, the GeForce Now Malaysia service can indeed run outside of the Yes 5G network. In other words, while you have to be a Yes customer to create the Yes 5G Gaming account, you can connect to GeForce Now through any Malaysian mobile telcos and Internet Service Providers.

Case in point, we gave the service a quick try through our HQ’s Time Internet connection via a 2019 Acer Aspire 5 laptop with 10th Gen Intel Core i7 and 16GB RAM. We also tried it on iPhone 14 Pro Max through the Safari browser:

We have experienced GeForce Now at several global tech expos over the years, so it is finally good to see that it is now finally available in Malaysia. Of course, expect to hear more about it from Yes and NVIDIA, especially the price that they going to set for our market which is something we expect to be revealed closer towards the end of the beta test in early April.
