Apple announced the iPhone 14 family of devices, including the Pro and Pro Max variants earlier this month. These are currently set to be released at the end of this week. Though early adopters may face quite the unpleasant problem with the camera on the Pro variants unless a hotfix is rolled out by then.
As 9to5Mac reports, early adopters of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max in countries who got the device earlier report issues with the phone’s cameras when using third-party apps. Users are reporting camera shakes when using apps like Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok. Some instances also see the camera module itself rattling about, with the disconcerting noise to accompany it.

All this means that until a hotfix is pushed out, users should not be using any third-party apps that involve the cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro and its Max variant. The shaky cameras mean that your shots using these third-party apps will be blurry anyway, and the rattling noise may mean damage to the camera hardware itself if it is left grinding away.
So far, there does not seem to be reports of the issue while using the default, pre-installed camera app. This suggests a software issue of some kind. And considering these issues are only reported on the Pro models, this suggests that the issue specifically involves the second generation sensor shift image stabilisation tech. The base model iPhone 14 and its Max variant uses the first generation sensor shift tech that prior models use.
Since this issue involves third party apps, it may be up to the makers of said apps to issue a hotfix for the issue. Though all the same, Apple might have a quick iOS 16 update to address the issue, either way, there is currently no word on when said fix will be released. Here’s hoping that it comes in time for the Malaysian release of the iPhone 14 Pro later this week.
