After several long months of speculations and beating around the bush, AMD has officially pulled the curtains back from the Radeon RX 6500XT, the long awaited entry-level graphics card for desktop PC gamers.
Like all current-generation Radeon graphic cards launched in 2021, the 6500XT is both manufactured and based on AMD’s 7nm RDNA2 GPU architecture and the chipmaker says that it is a card that has the “fastest sustained GPU clock rates” with a boost clock of up to 2.6GHz. In addition, it features 16 Compute Units (CUs) and Ray Accelerators, as well as a 16MB Infinity Cache.
The 6500XT is clearly aimed at gamers who are content with gaming at Full HD resolution and to that end, AMD says that the new card will deliver up to 1.6X the performance over NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1650 and, unsurprisingly, the company’s older Radeon RX 570 graphics card. With FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) capable titles, such a Deathloop and Far Cry 6, the card should be able to sustain an average framerate above the 80 fps mark. All within moderate graphics presets across the board, at least.
The AMD Radeon RX 6500XT is set to be available from 19 January onwards.
