Ayaneo Delays Launch Of Next-Generation Handheld Gaming Console

The new launch date seems to coincide with AMD's own CES 2022 keynote.

Ayaneo, the China-based handheld gaming console maker, seems to have pushed back the launch date of its latest console from 28 December to 4 January. That new launch date, by the way, also coincides with the AMD’s CES 2022 announcement.

While no official explanation was given by the Chinese console maker, it has been speculated that it is doing so in order to line up its product with AMD’s next-generation Rembrandt APU, otherwise known as the Ryzen 6000 series. For the uninitiated, Ayaneo first came on to the scene last year with the launch of the Aya Neo Founder, a handheld gaming console sporting a 7-inch IPS display and power by an AMD Ryzen 4500U APU.

Getting back to the brand’s next console, another reason for it delaying the launch date is competition; as it stands, its direct competition is the Steam Deck, which Valve first revealed back July this year. Specs-wise, the form factor comes with a 7-inch 16:10 touch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 16GB LPDDR5 RAM. What really sets it apart from its rivals, though, is the custom AMD SoC that consists of a Zen 2-based CPU, and RDNA2 GPU with eight compute units.

Dear gamers,

For certain reasons, the Ayaneo event we planned on 28 Dec is rescheduled to 21:30, 4 Jan 2022 EST.
We apologize for the wait and invite you to join us on YouTube (https://t.co/5hnKlb02be), and meet the next generation gaming handheld – Ayaneo NEXT.

In the case of the AyaNeo Next, its Rembrandt APU would offer 12 Compute Units and typically run at 2GHz or higher, depending on what sort of configuration the company wants. In any case, we’ll just to wait until next month to hear more about the handheld console.
