EA: Lootboxes In FIFA Is Just Like Real World Football

The publisher admits it needs "real solutions" for people with uncontrolled spending.

Electronic Arts may have some games that have no lootboxes recently, the mechanic remains prominent in the publisher’s golden goose, the FIFA series. And according to an interview with Eurogamer, EA Chief Experience Officer Chris Bruzzo says that it’s a mechanic that’s here to stay.

It’s a pretty long interview, with a major focus on lootboxes within the FIFA series. And as you’d expect, there’s plenty of dodging and deflecting when the hard questions are put forward. At one point, Bruzzo also equates loot box spending to real world football.

Bruzzo also claims that it is not the intention of EA to have people spend too much time or money on FIFA. To that end, he says the publisher has things like the FIFA Playtime dashboards to help players keep track of their spending. He also goes on to say that the publisher will work on “real solutions” to the problem. Just as long as the problem gets to stay.

You can read the full interview, or a still considerably lengthy summary, by hitting the link below. Though ultimately, the takeaway is that EA is not removing lootboxes from FIFA, but is apparently aware that there are problem spenders spending too much on it, and is working to control it.
