ASUS has recently launched two new entries to its 2021 gaming smartphone line in Taiwan, consisting of the ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro models. True to what was reported in a leak shared last week, both devices are equipped with Qualcomm’s updated flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 888 Plus.

Both the standard and Pro variants of the new ASUS ROG Phone 5s series boast a higher clock speed of 3GHz via the new SoC, which surpasses the original models’ peak performance at only 2.86GHz. Paired together with the new onboard chip are the same memory configurations of up to 18GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

Similarities between the new models and the original series that launched earlier this year also extends to the rest of their specifications, as well as their designs. Both ROG Phone 5s models retain the same 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED HDR display with 144Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch-sampling rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Also present are ASUS’ ultrasonic-based AirTrigger 5 shoulder buttons, in-display fingerprint recognition, dual front-facing speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android 11 via ROG UI. Both gaming phones feature a 6,000mAh battery with 65W HyperCharge fast charging support via USB-C. Like the original release, only the Pro variant is offered with dual additional rear touchpads, and a small PMOLED display on its back that can be customised by the user.

As for photography, the ROG Phone 5s duo comes with a triple camera setup which consists of a Sony IMX686 64MP main shooter, paired with a 13MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro sensor. Found on the upper bezel of either phones’ display is a 24MP front-facing camera.

The new ASUS ROG Phone 5s are slated to be sold in Taiwan on 24 August, although there’s no news on whether they’ll be available for the global market at this time. As for pricing, the standard model will retail at TWD 29,990 (~RM 4,552) for the 16GB + 256GB configuration, and TWD 33,990 (~RM 5,160) for the 18GB + 512GB. Meanwhile, the Pro variant is only available in 18GB + 512GB memory configuration and is priced at TWD 37,990 (~RM 5,770).
