Xiaomi announced a collaboration with Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 last night during its Ecosystem Product Launch stream. While that sentence alone could easily make one assume that we’ll be seeing a Mi branded automobile but that is not the case, unfortunately. Instead, the Chinese company revealed that it will release a special edition of the newly announced Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2, in partnership with the F1 team.

Announced during the stream are two new Xiaomi electric scooters, the Mi Electric Scooter 1S and the Electric Scooter Pro 2 that was mentioned earlier. Both of the compact vehicles sport 8.5-inch shock-absorbing pneumatic tyres, multifunctional dashboards, double braking system and an “aerospace-grade” aluminium body. The company claims that the scooters can be folded in just three seconds for storage.

The Mi Electric Scooter 1S is capable of hitting 30km in terms of range, a maximum speed of 25km/h, a power output of 500W, weighs at 12.5kg. Meanwhile the Pro 2 has a range of 45km, the same top speed as the 1S, a maximum power output of 600W, and a weight of 14.2kg.

Xiaomi did not reveal what is to be expected from the Mercedes-AMG version of the Electric Scooter Pro 2, but promises to release further details soon. “We are extremely excited to bring the Mercedes F1 experience closer to our fans,” said the F1 team’s VP of brand partnerships APAC Chris Church. “Like us, Xiaomi is committed to continuous innovation and we are delighted to work alongside them to bring to the market this new edition of their flagship Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2.”

The Mi Electric Scooter 1S is priced at EUR399 (~RM1,940), while the Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 is priced at EUR499 (~RM2,426). The company did not mention when both models are expected to go on sale.
