Lego Art Announced; Buildable Posters Featuring Pop Culture Icons And More

Lego has transformed from being toys to literal building blocks to create art, as seen with various sculptures created by talented builders from across the world. In a move to go further in the art aspect, the Danish-based company has introduced the aptly named Lego Art line-up that offers fans to “build” posters featuring pop culture icons such as The Beatles and even Darth Vader.

Rather than being 3D brick-based models, the new sets feature small bead-sized pieces which you can piece together on a Lego mat that acts as a canvas for the artwork. Lego Art currently has four sets to choose from – including The Beatles, Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe, Marvel’s Iron Man, and a Star Wars set featuring members of the Sith.

While the selection sounds limited, each set actually offers builders multiple ways to complete them. For instance, The Beatles set will supply you with enough parts to build every member of the band individually. However, the catch is that you are provided with one canvas and that would limit you to build only one member. The idea is that you’d have to buy four of the same set in order to have a complete collection of the band. Unless you’re totally fine with just having Ringo Starr on your wall.

Another approach is combining certain sets to form a larger artwork. This applies to the Iron Man and Star Wars line, where you can merge three canvases and parts to create a long poster of Iron Man firing his repulsor ray and a tall poster of Darth Vader wielding his lightsaber respectively.

The Lego Art sets will retail at USD120 (~RM514) each and are slated to launch on 1 August internationally.
