Lowyat TV: Quick Comparison Between HONOR 9X Pro and HONOR 9X

While both phones were originally launched in China back in July 2019, it was only recently that the HONOR 9X Pro has made its way to Malaysia. They looked so similar to each other to the extent that even we ourselves had a hard time to differentiate between HONOR 9X Pro and its older sibling, the HONOR 9X.

In Malaysia, the easiest way to tell them apart is their colourways. The HONOR 9X Pro is currently only available in Phantom Purple while the HONOR 9X can be obtained in either Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black.

(L to R): HONOR 9X Pro in Phantom Purple and HONOR 9X in Sapphire Blue. The older model actually does feature a 48MP main rear camera even though it is not labelled as such.

For other differences between both models, you need to go deeper into these phones themselves as they share so many components together. In terms of hardware differences, the HONOR 9X Pro is equipped with newer Kirin 810 processor and larger internal storage space at 256GB as opposed to HONOR 9X which carries Kirin 710F and 128GB storage.

However, the most noticeable difference between both phones is the fact that HONOR 9X Pro does not support Google Mobile Services (GMS) and relies on Huawei AppGallery as its main app store. Since the Malaysian variant of HONOR 9X is powered by Kirin 710F (China’s variant features Kirin 810 instead), it still able to support GMS and Google Play.

HONOR 9X Pro.

Price-wise, HONOR 9X Pro is now available in Malaysia for RM 999 while the HONOR 9X is currently priced at RM 899 and both phones are being offered with free HONOR Band 5i fitness tracker at the moment. For a closer look at HONOR 9X Pro, check out our hands-on right here.
