The government has agreed to provide RM500 one-off financial aid to e-hailing drivers. This announcement is one of many that was brought forward by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as part of the Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package live broadcast on 27 March 2020.
“I am aware that the daily earnings of full-time e-hailing drivers are affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO),” said Muhyiddin Yassin. “To ease their burden, the Government will provide one-off financial aid of RM500 to 120,000 drivers with an allocation of RM60 million.”
The prime minister also added that taxi drivers will receive a one-off payment of RM600 starting 1 April 2020, as decided in the Economic Stimulus Package announced prior to this.
