Unnamed AMD Radeon GPU Appears; Outpaces NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

While AMD already has entry-level and mid-range Navi-powered Radeon GPUs, the brand is clearly still missing representation in the high-end graphics department. However, a benchmark post listing an unnamed AMD Radeon Graphics component suggests that we may not have to wait that much longer.

The benchmark list was originally posted on OpenVR’s benchmark page. For context, the site lists down the scores of both CPUs and GPUs. Tested with different VR headsets. In this case, the unnamed AMD Radeon Graphics is shown to have snagged second place in the test with an HTC Vive MV headset. There’s not much known about the CPU here, though it’s clear that we’re looking at an unnamed, AMD-based engineering sample.

What is interesting to note is that the Radeon Graphics device in question also seems to have outperformed the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti by nearly 30%, and with the same VR headset as well. Of course, it should be noted that the comparison isn’t exactly an apples-to-apples comparison; while the GPUs were obviously different, the RTX 2080 Ti was tested in tandem with two Intel CPUs – the Core i7-8700K and Core i9-9900K.

On that note, it’s also important to consider the PCIe interface that the Radeon Graphics devices was running on; with its new Navi-powered Radeon RX 5000 series graphics card, AMD also announced that its new cards would run on the new PCIe 4.0 interface. Which could explain why AMD’s unnamed GPU was able to outpace NVIDIA’s own enthusiast-level offering.

Sadly, there’s no additional information about the Radeon Graphics device here, but word on the grapevine is hinting at the possibility of AMD announcing a “high-end” Navi-powered graphics card this year. Considering the company announced its Radeon RX 5700 series at Computex last year, it’s possible that AMD will do the same at this year’s Computex as well.

Naturally, this is all just speculation and hearsay on our part, so do take it with a large grain of salt.
