If you’ve been paying attention to the latest headlines in tech media, there’s a good chance that you’ve noticed news about the possibility of Samsung renaming their upcoming 2020 flagship smartphones. Rather than being called the “S11”, the new phone is reportedly going to be introduced as the “S20” instead. But is it really, though?
This supposed insight came from well-known leaker IceUniverse, in which he simply tweeted, “Galaxy S20.” It’s not until a few hours later he then followed up the tweet by saying, “Next year is 2020, and 20 is a new beginning.”
Apparently that was all it took for tech media to immediately spread the gospel to their followers and readers about how Samsung has decided to drop the old naming convention and adopt a new one. Some sites have already stopped referring the unannounced smartphone as the S11 in newer news posts, and has fully embraced the new S20 name.

For us, it takes a lot more convincing no matter how reliable an unofficial source may be. For all we know, the S20 could be an entirely new Samsung flagship unrelated to the Galaxy S11. Perhaps it’s the name of the supposed Galaxy Fold successor? Or maybe the cat merely coughed out a hairball and the media decided to go crazy over it?
Interestingly enough, IceUniverse still refers to the upcoming Samsung flagship as the “S11” in a recent tweet.

So, is the new Galaxy phone called the S11 or S20? Regardless, we won’t know for sure until we hear it officially from Samsung themselves. Until then, we’ll stick to calling it the “S11” for now.
