By now, you’ve probably have heard of The Game Awards, one of the biggest award shows for video games. Its founder, Geoff Keighley, has announced The Game Festival, an online event that takes place on Steam for 48 hours, before the main event itself.

The idea is that, like physically attending a games event, you get to play first-look demos for a few games. There are at least 13 titles that you can preview for two days on Steam. They will be free to try, so no sense in passing on them while you can.

Today I'm introducing a brand new aspect of #TheGameAwards It's called #TheGameFestival, and tomorrow for 48 hours, you'll get to play 12 new game demos for the first time on @Steam. More details: https://t.co/k4n3guyJxc

As for when you’ll actually be able to play them, the 48-hour window starts at 2AM local time on Friday. Here’s a list of demos that will be available as part of the pilot Game Festival:

  • System Shock (Nightdive Studios)
  • Eastward (Pixpil/Chucklefish)
  • Spiritfarer (Thunder Lotus)
  • Moving Out (SMG Studio/Devm Games/Team17)
  • Röki (Polygon Treehouse/United Label)
  • Chicory (Greg Lobanov)
  • Wooden Nickel (Brain&Brain)
  • Haven (The Game Bakers)
  • Heavenly Bodies (2pt Interactive)
  • Acid Knife (Powerhoof)
  • The Drifter (Powerhoof)
  • CARRION (Phobia/Devolver)
  • SkateBIRD (Glass Bottom Games)

The Game Festival is, according to Keighley, the next step for The Game Awards. Speaking of which, The Game Awards starts at 9.30AM local time, and can be streamed on Steam in 4K. There’s also a Game Awards Sale that will be happening on the digital platform.
