Ryde Officially Kicks Off In Malaysia

If you need more options when it comes to ridesharing apps, there’s now a new one on the market. It’s called Ryde, and it’s a company that hails from our neighbour Singapore.

Like other apps of its kind, you get features like review and ratings. That said, Ryde focuses more on carpooling for regular commutes, instead of one-off trips to the airport. One immediate result of this is that fares calculated by the app do not take commission into account.

In other words, neither the company nor the drivers will profit from this. This will change in the future, but the company has not decided when exactly this will happen.

On the flip side, riders have the option to bid for a request. This will benefit drivers who feel that their fares are not enough to cover their expenses. This also applies when there are a lot of riders in a single area. Payment options as of now are still limited to cash only.

The app is already available for download for both riders and drivers. That said, the service itself will only start on 1 November 2019 in the Klang Valley. The company plans to roll out the service to other locations such as Johor, Penang and Melaka, provided no time frame as to when that is happening.
