For mid-range smartphones, being around the RM1000 price point can easily be the difference between a purchase and a pass. realme has consistently been launching convincing phones at the RM1099 mark, and its latest, the realme 5 Pro, is no different.

To quickly recap, the realme 5 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 4035mAh battery that supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging, On the camera department, it sports a 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP quad camera combo on the back, and a 16MP front-facing camera.

For comparison, let’s bring the Vivo V17 Pro into the picture. Being launched only a couple of days apart, both phones have a lot in common. These include the quad-camera setup, the 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. They both also run Android 9 Pie, despite having different overlays. Their displays are very minutely different in measurement, but both come in Full HD+ resolution.

Chipset

But when it comes to differences, the first is also one of the more important ones. The realme 5 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset, where the Vivo V17 Pro comes with a Snapdragon 675. The former is newer, has a higher CPU clock speed, and has the better GPU.

Battery

Then comes the battery and their charge speeds. Both the realme 5 Pro and the Vivo V17 Pro have very comparable batteries, measuring in at 4035mAh and 4100mAh, respectively. Both also come with their brands’ respective fast charge tech.

The former is known as VOOC 3.0, which charges at 20W. On the other hand, the latter comes with Dual-Engine fast-charging, at 18W. It’s not that great a difference, but it could mean coming back to a full battery, or having to wait a few more minutes before you see the 100% reading.

Price

Finally, and most importantly, the price. As mentioned earlier, the realme 5 Pro entered the market with a price tag of RM1099. On the other hand, the Vivo V17 Pro launched with a price of RM1699. Needless to say, there’s quite a significant price gap between the two phones, especially if you were to get them at full price.

The realme 5 Pro will hit shelves beginning tomorrow, 12 October 2019. This means today is the last day for you to place your pre-order for the phone. You also stand to get a RM100 rebate, as well as an assortment of free gifts when you do so at selected stores. Hit this link to find out more.
