The biggest news in the world of pop culture over the past week is Spider-Man’s departure from the MCU — Disney and Sony had reached an impasse on their latest negotiations over the use of the web-slinger in big-screen feature films. (The original deal that was signed in 2015, was only meant to last five years.) As a result of the fallout, Kevin Feige would no longer serve as the creative mind behind the Spider-Man solo movies and Spidey would no longer be a part of the MCU.
Since that news broke, there have been Facebook groups created, petitions signed and rallies planned, mostly blaming Sony and demanding that they return Spider-Man to the MCU (although, it isn’t even their fault). Well, swimming through all that nonsense is one fan who decided to create something simple, direct and helpful for a change. Someone on the internet has created a website that will tell you if Spider-Man is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, with a simple push of a button (click here).
No, Spidey is not back in the MCU yet and the website indicates just as much.
Don’t get your hopes up, though. While it’s likely that Disney and Sony could eventually come to some sort of renewed agreement, seeing how there’s a lot of money involved, recent words from Kevin Feige and Tom Holland indicate that Spider-Man will not be a part of the MCU at least for the foreseeable future.
A couple of days ago Feige said, “I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy. We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever.” During one of the presentations at Disney’s D23 Expo, Tom Holland took the opportunity to thank the fans: “It’s been a crazy week but I want you all to know from the bottom of my heart I love you 3000.”
