UPDATE (4 July / 4:40 PM):

PlayStation has announced that it’s changing one of the free games for July. Instead of PES 2019, we’ll be getting Detroit: Become Human instead. And not just the standard version either; the version that PlayStation is giving away for free is the Digital Deluxe Edition.

ORIGINAL STORY (28 June / 9:00 AM):

July is upon us, and it’s time to take another look at what PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting for free. Next month, it looks like the games in question are Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, and Aegis Defenders.

Pro Evolution Soccer is the only real alternative to Electronic Arts’ FIFA when it comes to football games. It is instead published by Konami, and your mileage may vary when it comes to which is the better game. What is for certain, though, is the lack of FIFA-related content like the World Cup, since those are licensed to EA.

As for Aegis Defenders, this is an interesting mix of 2D platforming and tower defense. You control a team of four members through a stages that start off in its exploration phase before you’re asked to protect an objective, transitioning to the the tower defense mode. The game has 18 levels for its story campaign, and another three bonus stages.

Both games will be available to PlayStation Plus subscribers for free from 3 July to 6 August. if you haven’t claimed this month’s free games, now’s as good a time as any. And don’t forget about the PlayStation Plus subscription price adjustment that’s happening on 1 August.
