Alleged Image Renders Of The Sony Xperia 2 Appear Online

Sony’s current flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1, was announced earlier this year at CES 2019, and has yet to officially reach the shelves of stores around the world. So, imagine our surprise when purported high-resolution image renders of the device’s successor surfaced on the internet.

Images of the device, unofficially referred to as the Xperia 2, first popped up on the India-based site, CashKaro. At a glance, the phone seems to share many design elements with the Xperia 1, albeit with some noticeable differences.

To start, the main triple-camera setup is still present, but rather than having it positioned in the middle of the phone, it’s now been shifted to the left side of the phone. While still maintaining its vertical orientation. Also, the side-mounted fingerprint scanner appears to have a deeper indentation than the one on the Xperia 1.

It also looks like the Xperia 2 will retain the same long, 6.2-inch CinemaWide, 21:9 ratio display that was first introduced with the Xperia 1. Beyond that, the image renders don’t reveal much else, not even the hardware powering it.

However, the same source is speculating that the Xperia 2’s hardware won’t deviate too far from its predecessor. Meaning that the phone could possibly run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6GB RAM, and a smaller 3000mAh battery.

Of course, these image renders are far from the real thing, but even if it were true, it wouldn’t be the first time Sony has ever done something like this. As an example, Sony first released the Xperia XZ2 earlier last year, followed by the Xperia XZ3 months after. The XZ3 was virtually identical to the XZ2, the only difference between them being its bigger 6-inch OLED BRAVIA display.

On another note, even if the phone does exist, it is unlikely that the phone will be made available to the Malaysian market anytime soon. Especially since Sony has more or less pulled out its mobile division from the country.
