Xiaomi Unveils Mi 9 SE; Comes With Snapdragon 712 SoC

While Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 9 in China earlier today, the company also threw in an extra phone into the spotlight. It comes in the form of Mi 9 SE, and rather than a proper special edition model which one might have expect given its name, it is actually a more affordable option under the Mi 9 series instead.

The first thing that’s immediately obvious about the SE is that it’s smaller than the standard Mi 9. Where the Mi 9 measures in at 6.39 inches, the Mi 9 SE has a display of 5.97 inches.

Despite being more affordable, the Mi 9 SE actually keeps most of the key features of the Mi 9. This includes the in-display fingerprint sensor, the 48MP main sensor of the rear camera setup, and the 20MP front-facing camera.

On to the differences beyond size, the Mi 9 SE’s main camera is accompanied by a 13MP wide-angle unit and another 8MP telephoto lens. The battery is also slightly smaller, at 3070 mAh and most importantly, the Mi 9 SE comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC – the first such device in the market, claimed Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE also comes with 6GB of RAM alongside two options of internal storage including 64GB and 128GB. Price-wise, they are listed at RMB1999 (~RM1210) and RMB2299 (~RM1392), respectively. The colours are the same as the Standard Mi 9, with Lavender Violet, Ocean Blue and Piano Black being the available options.

Like the standard Xiaomi Mi 9, there’s no indication yet as to when the Mi 9 SE will be available on our shores. We’ll keep you posted once we hear more from Xiaomi.
