Xiaomi Mi 6X Unveiled with 2µm Dual-Camera System & Affordable Price Tag

Xiaomi just launched a new mid-range smartphone in China, the Xiaomi Mi 6X. Sporting a dual-camera system with 2µm pixels, the 6X seems to boast very promising camera performance – it carries a very competitive price tag too, naturally.

One of the most highlighted features of the Mi 6X is its dual-camera system. Made up of 20MP and 12MP shooters, Xiaomi said the 20MP sensor has a pixel size of 2µm, which is achieved through pixel binning. With the large pixel size, the camera should be able to absorb more light for better low-light camera performance.

A selfie taken with the Mi 6X’s 20MP front-facing camera.

As for the front-facing camera, it’s a 20MP shooter with f/1.75 aperture, which can emulate bokeh effects pretty well. Looking at Xiaomi’s sample images, the selfie shooter is smart enough to not blur out hair accessories – it’s worth noting this feature is also implemented on the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

Other specifications of the Mi 6X include a 5.99-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM, two choices of internal storage (64GB or 128GB), as well as a 3,010mAh battery. Unfortunately, the 6X does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but it does comes with a USB-C port.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X will retail from 1,599 Chinese yuan (about RM990) for the base model with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. The highest-end 128GB variant with 6GB of RAM, on the other hand, goes for 1,999 yuan (around RM1,235). For now, it remains to be seen if the Mi 6X will be sold outside of China, and whether or not it will be marketed as the Mi A2 globally.
